Santa Fe will always remind me of my grandmother.
It is road trips that seemed (as a child) to last forever. Of being squished in the backseat of her Cadillac Eldorado, listening to the Eagles or Brooks & Dunn. Of writing silly “We’ve gone to see the world” notes with my cousin & hiding in the very back of my Aunt’s red minivan to make them think we ran away. Of learning to ski in Chipmunk School. Of wearing broomstick skirts in alllll their 90s glory. But most of all, laughing and spending time with my family.
We lost my Neena this September. There is not a day that goes by where I don’t think about her or miss her. And I doubt very much that there ever will be. However I know that she is always with me. Her strength, her sense of humor, her kindness & generosity, her thirst for knowledge, her vivaciousness…I see them every day in my Mom, Aunt Jan, and cousin Will. And I genuinely hope that they see the same in me.
Over Thanksgiving, we took a road trip to Santa Fe to honor her and spend time wrapped up in a place with so many fond memories.
